This 1,800-square-foot shop is tastefully jammed with fine wines (there's a tiny fridge with a few beers and bottles of liquor, but why bother). The help is young but amazingly knowledgeable, and check their pretensions at the door. Although the focus is on high-end wines, there's a solid under-$10 selection. Education is a forte--besides in-store tastings, there are regular classes for the wine novice.

	Paper Patisserie 366 Selby Ave Saint Paul, MN 55102 Phone: (651) 227-1398	Hansel and Gretel would feel right at home in this bakery that resembles a gingerbread house, complete with yellow walls and doll-house-perfect white cafe tables. With snickerdoodles and meltaways that draw the local after-school set, this treat shop also churns out way-too-cute specialty items like x and o cookies for Valentine's Day and watermelon and hamburger-shaped cookies. Their infamous pull-aparts--a fluffy bread ring oozing with gooey caramel--make a decadent breakfast treat.

Be prepared to spend time in the clearance area, though; most of the books there are unorganized, though they are sorted by fiction/non-fiction and placed neatly onto the shelving. The only problem this store has is the small parking lot, which has a capacity of maybe 15 cars at any given time. During the weekends and on some evenings, parking is scarce and you will more than likely be required to walk to the store from another lot. The larger lot adjacent to the store's lot, however, is for private parking only and cars there will be towed. This store is highly recommended for anyone seeking books at a discount price.

	Up Six 157 Snelling Ave N St Paul, MN 55104 Phone: (651) 917-0470	Up Six, tucked into busy Snelling Avenue, is like two stores in one. Head to the room on the right for that perfect '50s kitchen table or maybe a mod '70s couch. Veer to the left and you've got vintage men's and women's clothes, like a pristine '60s cocktail dress or an authentic retro tee, unlike what's at Target. All kinds of shoppers come, including nostalgia-seekers and plenty of hipsters from the area colleges.
